Court Collections
The Webb County Clerks Office initiated its Court Collection Program effective January 1, 2007, in compliance with Senate Bill 1863, Article 10,79 th Legislature. The Program is designed to collect fees assessed by County Court at Law #1 and #2. These fees include, but are not limited to: Court Costs, Fines, Traffic Fines, Drug Court Fees, Attorney Fees, Crime Stoppers, Defense Attorney Fees (Public), Children Advocacy Center, Department of Public Safety Lab Fees, Extradition Fee, Public Reimbursement Fee (for defendants not on Probation), Time Payment Fee, Women Shelter. The Court Collection Program will collect these fees and/or those assessed by the court, from all defendants who plea guilty in any misdemeanor case before a County Court at Law Judge. The Court Collections Program is required to collect all fees within 72 hours of a plea of guilty . The defendant is responsible for contacting the Court Collection Program Office once a plea of guilty is submitted. Should the defendant not contact the Court Collection Program Office, the case will be referred back to the Judge for further review. A warrant may be issued for the defendant if fees are not paid within the allotted time as specified in the guidelines of the program. Once the defendant has contacted the Court Collections Program Office and has stated a valid reason as to why he/she is not prepared to make payment in full, he/she will be interviewed for a payment plan. The payment plan will extend over a 90 day period, requiring the defendant to complete an application divulging (to include, but not limited to) financial information, employment information, and government assistance information. All applications are subject to verification. The defendant would then be placed on a payment plan to ensure full payment to be made within the 90 days.
