We have initiated a program to enhance the quantity and quality of the essential services
that we provide to our community. This program started in February when we funded
the
sheriff's department so they could modernize their weaponry, and make improvements to
the jail facility. Moreover, we are providing sufficient resources so that our sheriff's department
may increase their ability to patrol the streets, including added patrol units, and, by way of my
proposed budget, sufficient funding so as to hire part time jailers in order to maintain the proper
prisoner/jailer ratios. By doing this, we are able to maintain our patrols in the streets instead of
having to bring them in off of the streets to man the jail. This in turn, enhances the essential service
of providing police protection for our community.
We have also provided our constables with additional equipment for them to expand their role from
what they have been doing traditionally to include pro-active law enforcement.
