The federal Government has yet to award a contract to build the jail. Recently, however, public hearings were held to assess environmental impact. The jail will be the largest federal penal facility in the country with a huge economic impact in our community. Webb County has cooperated with the applicants for the contract in order to facilitate the process and so that this enormous boost to our economy can happen.
