ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT FUNDS A BETTER PLACE, A BRIGHER FUTURE FOR WEBB COUNTY RESIDENTS
The Economic Development Department was created by the Commissioners Court in March 1995 for the acquisition of grant funds to develop and administer—from concept to completion—programs and projects that address needs within the County. The efforts of the Department provide revenues in the form of grants that benefit significant segments of the county populace while placing no unnecessary financial burden on county taxpayers. In collaboration with the County Judge, Commissioners, the Board of Judges, and other county departments, the Economic Development Department has and continues to procure funds for a wide range of project needs. These include community development, education, job training, health, safety, recreation, law enforcement, homeland security, transportation, and infrastructure development. The Economic Development Department serves at the will of the Webb County Commissioners Court. Its mission is to plan, execute, and administer a wide range of projects from federal and state entities. The staff at Economic Development, a team of experienced professionals, continues to diligently solicit and leverage grant funds to help educate, provide strategic planning, improve infrastructure, expand community development, nurture a safe environment, and provide needed services to Webb County residents. The successful grant writing efforts of the Economic Development Department helped bring a Colonia Self Help Center to targeted areas of Webb County along Highway 359. In addition, some highlights of many other successfully funded endeavors by the Economic Development Department include the Webb County Safe Havens Visitation Center, the Webb County VISTA Volunteer Project, the Rio Bravo Housing Rehabilitation Program, the Webb County Contract-for-Deed Program, the HOME Major Reconstruction Program, and the Webb County Community Outdoor Outreach Program. These initiatives, among many others, constitute Webb County’s commitment to improve the quality of life, empower its citizens, and foster the vision that all Webb County residents have a stake in the community they call home.
