As part of my administration goals, I initiated a comprehensive plan to improve our county roads, the first of any such plan for Webb County as there has never been a comprehensive plan to improve Webb county roads. Last year, we spent almost $400k on road improvements to the many colonias; $250K county road improvements; $70k on special projects (such as fixing the golf course fence, area clean ups, storm response); and, $170k on trash pick-up, for total of over $1 million. Next year we will spend about $1.3 million towards the same efforts (about $600k will be for paving alone). Currently, we are in the middle of extensive road improvements in the colonias. We are at work on the Espejo Molina Rd., Mangana Hein Rd., Detention Center Rd., Del Mar Rd., Botines Lane., Jennings Rd. & Mirando Streets where we are paving 18 miles—we've completed 12 miles to date (this is the road where school children could not be picked up to go to school). We are placing emphasis on road improvements at the many colonias where people could not get in or out of the communities whenever there is a rain of any significance.
