The Elderly Nutrition Program

Program Manager: Adrian Perez Garnica

One of the programs under the umbrella of the Community Action Agency is the Elderly Nutrition Program. This program has been in existence for well over 20 years. It provides a warm to hot, nutritious noon meal to the elderly residents of our community. The Elderly Nutrition Program authorized under the Commissioner’s Court is intended to improve the dietary intake of participants and to offer participants opportunities to form new friendships.

 Our Service and Commitment

1. Congregate meals that are offered to seniors in groups or otherwise known as “concillios” The program provides a warm to hot nutritious noon meal to the elderly residents of our community.

2. All seniors 55 years of age and over, are eligible to participate in the Elderly Nutrition Program. Although the program does not set particular income limits to participate, outreach efforts are focused on low-income seniors in particular.

3. In addition to providing nutrition and nutrition-related services, the Elderly Nutrition Program provides an important link to other needed supportive community based services such as transportation, arts & crafts, board games and fitness programs to name a few activities.
