The County of Webb seeks funding assistance from the USDA-Community Facility Grants Program for the construction of a 4,077 sq foot fire station in Colonia Peñitas West, located in northwestern Webb County. This new facility is crucial to the provision of effective fire services for the northwestern rural sector in Rancho Peñitas West, Webb County. The County currently owns the proposed project site, and the site has the proper infrastructure necessary to adequately serve the proposed fire station building. The site is adjacent to and will have direct access to FM 3338 and FM 1472. The County will expand the services of the Webb County Fire Department to provide expedient fire protection and emergency services to the residents in this area.
2. Colonia Economically Distressed Area Program (CEDAP) - Pueblo Nuevo

The project will connect 67 house- to- line - water and sanitary sewer connection lines. Septic tank mitigation shall also be done for the southwest section of the community of Pueblo Nuevo located along State Highway 359 in West Webb County.
3. 2013 FEMA: Fire Prevention & Safety Grant (EP&S) - Webb County Volunteer Fire Department

Webb County, through the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department, will implement proactive (prevention) and reactive (safety) activities to provide awareness, education and the resources such as smoke detectors and fire prevention kits to colonia residents in Webb County. Webb County Fire Department records show that over 80% of colonia households affected by fire emergencies lacked a smoke alarm. For this reason, the Webb County Volunteer Fire Department will utilize the requested Fire Prevention & Safety grant funds for the following eligible activities: (1) Fire Prevention & Safety Workshops to take place at the ten (10) Webb County rural area Community Centers. The topics to be covered are Awareness and Education on Fire Prevention. Those in attendance will be provided with Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms for installation in their homes. Follow-up home visits will be conducted randomly to ensure the proper installation of the smoke alarms. A total of 2000 smoke alarms will be distributed to the participating households. (2) In addition, funds from this grant will be used to hire a full-time Fire Prevention & Safety Coordinator for all colonia outreach activities and to conduct the workshops. (3) Funds from this grant will also be used to conduct Fire Prevention & Safety Training for ten (10) volunteer firefighters. The goal of the proposed Webb County Fire Prevention & Safety (FP&S) Project is to increase fire prevention awareness in the colonia communities to reduce fire risk, save lives and property.
